I’m the Medical Group Commander at the 190th Air Refueling Wing, Forbes Field ANG Base, Topeka, Kansas.  As a traditional Guardsman/Commander, I’ve been engaged in the fight from early March. Even though I live in Oregon and commute to Kansas for drill, I’ve been tele-commuting for the past month:  coordinating medical response and distro of the strategic national stockpile with the Kansas Department of Emergency Management and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.  Additionally, we’ve put multiple Airmen into the fray.  Just one small cog in the organizational wheel that will eventually beat this thing.

I am a COL in the Tennessee Army National Guard (TNARNG).  I am currently the 30th Troop Command Brigade Commander.  One of my subordinate units is the Joint Task Force Medical (JTF-MED), responding to the COVID-19 crisis in the State of Tennessee.  JTF-MED consists of 261 Medical Providers, Physician Assistants, Nurses, 68W Combat Medics, Medical Service Corps (MSC) Officers, etc. JTF-MED has set up 35 Remote Assessment Sites across the State, to provide COVID-19 screening and testing, in concert with the Department of Health (DOH).  In addition, JTF-MED has a Military Medical Reaction Force that reacts to “911 Calls” in situations like evacuating a nursing home.  We have conducted this mission twice already. JTF-MED has been operational for the last five weeks and we don’t expect to be finished anytime soon.

I am the County Manager for Summit County, Utah, home of our three largest and most visited ski areas in Utah and the largest tourism area in Utah and part of the financial lifeblood of our County and State.  We effectively shut down our economy by emergency orders by me and the Public Health Director three weeks ago and it is questionable about how we will climb out of it in a three-phased plan of urgent, stabilization, and recovery.  We are leading our community through this emergency and eventual recovery using all aspects of local power — Diplomatic, Information, Military (well not really except that I am still the Land Component Commander of the Utah Army National Guard) and Economy.
