ADVANCED STRATEGIC ART PROGRAM
The six-month curriculum of the Advanced Strategic Art Program (ASAP) is focused on developing national security professionals who can act as strategic advisors at the highest levels of the joint force and U.S. interagency. ASAP is a U.S.-only program delivered at up to the TS-SCI security clearance level. The program uses seminar discussion, guest speakers, case studies, war games, and staff-rides to improve students’ capacity for strategic analysis, problem solving, and both written and oral communication. Grant’s Vicksburg Campaign staff ride serves as the culminating event for the course on Military Strategy and Campaigning, while a week-long field study in Washington D.C. introduces the students to the U.S. interagency, non-governmental organizations, and the Washington think tank ecosphere. The capstone event for the program is a staff ride to Sicily and Normandy, where students walk the grounds of Operations Husky and Overlord. There they gain insights to the opportunities and challenges of coalition warfare and strategic leadership. An engagement at the Institute for Strategic Research in Paris affords an appreciation of multinational perspectives and engagement of a long-time NATO ally. U.S. Army and Air Force students completing the program earn the 6Z Strategic Studies Additional Skill Identifier (ASI) or its U.S. Air Force equivalent.
