I am currently working for the Department of Homeland Security for the Joint Incident Advisory Group (JIAG). We are working several issues at this time, but the most important one is the COVID-19 crisis. The JIAG is a professional staff of subject matter experts with reach-back to their Component or Office supporting the Secretary, DHS leadership, and HQ Counselors and Advisors in preparation for and response to all hazards, threats and evolving crises. It provides a scalable and flexible professional staff capability and process for improving operational coordination for Department-level threat and hazard incident preparedness and decision support for the senior leadership of the Department across all levels of communication. Here are some of the threats we are working: COVID-19; Border Security; Immigration Enforcement; Specific Nation State Threats; Counterterrorism; Law Enforcement & Countering Transnational Organized Crime and Trafficking; USCG and Maritime Operations; Cyber, Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience; Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction/ Medical; and Election 2020.
