LTGEN JJ Frewen, IF-Australia, was selected to lead the Australian Department of Defence COVID-19 Task Force on March 9, 2020. As Task Force Commander, LTGEN Frewen is responsible for all Defence contributions to the Australian Whole-of-Government response combating the COVID-19 pandemic and for ensuring business continuity across the Defence enterprise. The Task Force is coordinating Australian Defence Force (ADF) assistance to all Australian States and Territories, providing personnel to supplement law enforcement authorities safeguarding Australian communities, including remote Indigenous communities, and providing emergency medical personnel to assist COVID-19 affected medical facilities. Another key Task Force responsibility is ensuring the Department of Defence is well prepared to provide broader humanitarian assistance to Australia’s near region. LTGEN Frewen is also leading the development of Defence COVID-19 policy settings to ensure the ADF continues to maintain essential military capabilities while mobilizing the defence industry to provide essential supplies and contribute to the Australian Government’s economic stimulus plan.
