MG Janson Boyles is the Adjutant General of Mississippi, leading the Mississippi National Guard (MSNG), comprised of the Mississippi Army National Guard and the Mississippi Air National Guard, in its active participation in the ongoing global battle against COVID-19. In coordination with the Mississippi Governor’s COVID-19 State Task Force, the MSNG is supporting the Mississippi State Department of Health, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, and other agencies with the coordination and mission execution of approximately 17 COVID-19 testing sites, and with logistical and transportation support, security, and other missions across the state. MG Janson also continues to provide for the health and safety of his men and women in uniform, their families, and the communities in which they serve. In addition to serving on the front lines against COVID-19, Mississippians and the MSNG faced a new enemy on Easter Sunday, April 12th as severe weather ripped through their state. Violent tornadoes and thunderstorms pounded central and south Mississippi with a confirmed death count of at least 12 people and more than 1,200 homes damaged or destroyed. The MSNG assisted the Governor, Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) Director, and legislative officials in surveying, responding, and cleaning up the damage under already difficult conditions. Just one week later, Mississippi took another hit of severe weather, this time the storms touching down at Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, causing major damage in two buildings, minor damage in 70 other buildings, and widespread damage in the area. The impact to the citizens of Mississippi throughout this period was described by the Governor as catastrophic and heartbreaking.
