ALUMNI MEMORIAL
Set in a quiet spot on Forbes Avenue, the monument was completed in 1987 on the foundation of the former Post Chapel.Ā The inscription reads “In memory of graduates of the U.S. Army War College who have given their lives in combat.”Ā Ā To date, 27 United States and International War College Graduates have been recognized for their ultimate sacrifice in combat operations.
Note:Ā COL Richard C. Rescorla represents the only exception to the “died in combat” principle.Ā Rescorla, a retired U.S. Army Reserve Officer, died in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.Ā He is recognized on the memorial because his heroic efforts that day directly saved hundred of lives.Ā
The Class of 2015 enhanced the memorial by adding a map of the world, etched in granite, which reminds visitors of the international environment in which USAWC graduates serve.
